1These are the descendants of Esau (that is, Edom). 2Esau took his wives from the Canaanites: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, Oholibaʹmah the daughter of Anah the son of Zibeon the Hivite, 3and Basʹemath, Ishʹmael’s daughter, the sister of Nebaʹioth. 4And Adah bore to Esau, Elʹiphaz; Basʹemath bore Reuʹel; 5and Oholibaʹmah bore Jeʹush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.

6Then Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, his cattle, all his beasts, and all his property which he had acquired in the land of Canaan; and he went into a land away from his brother Jacob. 7For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together; the land of their sojournings could not support them because of their cattle. 8So Esau dwelt in the hill country of Seʹir; Esau is Edom.

9These are the descendants of Esau the father of the Eʹdomites in the hill country of Seʹir. 10These are the names of Esau’s sons: Elʹiphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuʹel the son of Basʹemath the wife of Esau. 11The sons of Elʹiphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. 12(Timna was a concubine of Elʹiphaz, Esau’s son; she bore Amʹalek to Elʹiphaz.) 20These are the sons of Seʹir the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibʹeon, Anah, 21Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the chiefs of the Horites, the sons of Seʹir in the land of Edom. 22The sons of Lotan were Hori and Heman; and Lotan’s sister was Timna. 23These are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manʹahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. 24These are the sons of Zibʹeon: Aʹiah and Anah; he is the Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness, as he pastured the asses of Zibʹeon his father. 25These are the children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibaʹmah the daughter of Anah. 26These are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran. 27These are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaʹavan, and Akan. 28These are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. 29These are the chiefs of the Horites: the chiefs Lotan, Shobal, Zibʹeon, Anah, 30Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the chiefs of the Horites, according to their clans in the land of Seʹir.

31These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the Israelites. 32Bela the son of Beʹor reigned in Edom, the name of his city being Dinʹhabah. 33Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead. 34Jobab died, and Husham of the land of the Teʹmanites reigned in his stead. 35Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who defeated Midʹian in the country of Moab, reigned in his stead, the name of his city being Avith. 36Hadad died, and Samlah of Masreʹkah reigned in his stead. 37Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoʹboth on the Euphraʹtes reigned in his stead. 38Shaul died, and Baʹal-haʹnan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead. 39Baʹal-haʹnan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his stead, the name of his city being Pau; his wife’s name was Mehetʹabel, the daughter of Matred, daughter of Meʹzahab.
