1The sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal. 2Re-aʹiah the son of Shobal was the father of Jahath, and Jahath was the father of Ahuʹmai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zoʹrathites. 3These were the sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash; and the name of their sister was Hazzelelpoʹni, 4and Penuʹel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the first-born of Ephʹrathah, the father of Bethlehem. 5Ashhur, the father of Tekoʹa, had two wives, Helah and Naʹarah; 6Naʹarah bore him Ahuzʹzam, Hepher, Teʹmeni, and Ha-ahashʹtari. These were the sons of Naʹarah. 7The sons of Helah: Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan. 8Koz was the father of Anub, Zobeʹbah, and the families of Aharʹhel the son of Harum. 9Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” 10Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that thou wouldst bless me and enlarge my border, and that thy hand might be with me, and that thou wouldst keep me from harm so that it might not hurt me!” And God granted what he asked. 11Chelub, the brother of Shuhah, was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton. 12Eshton was the father of Bethraʹpha, Paseʹah, and Tehinʹnah the father of Irnaʹhash. These are the men of Recah. 13The sons of Kenaz: Othʹni-el and Seraiʹah; and the sons of Othʹni-el: Hathath and Meoʹnothai. 14Meoʹnothai was the father of Ophrah; and Seraiʹah was the father of Joʹab the father of Ge-harʹashim, so-called because they were craftsmen. 15The sons of Caleb the son of Jephunʹneh: Iru, Elah, and Naʹam; and the sons of Elah: Kenaz. 16The sons of Jehalʹlelel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tirʹi-a, and Asʹarel. 17The sons of Ezrah: Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. These are the sons of Bithʹi-ah, the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered married; and she conceived and bore Miriam, Shamʹmai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoʹa. 18And his Jewish wife bore Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuʹthiel the father of Zanoʹah. 19The sons of the wife of Hodiʹah, the sister of Naham, were the fathers of Keiʹlah the Garmite and Eshtemoʹa the Ma-acʹathite. 20The sons of Shimon: Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-haʹnan, and Tilon. The sons of Ishi: Zoheth and Ben-zoʹheth. 21The sons of Shelah the son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, Laʹadah the father of Mareʹshah, and the families of the house of linen workers at Beth-ashbeʹa; 22and Jokim, and the men of Cozeʹba, and Joʹash, and Saraph, who ruled in Moab and returned to Lehem (now the records are ancient). 23These were the potters and inhabitants of Netaʹim and Gedeʹrah; they dwelt there with the king for his work.

24The sons of Simeon: Nemʹuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul; 25Shallum was his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son. 26The sons of Mishma: Hamʹmu-el his son, Zacʹcur his son, Shimʹe-i his son. 27Shimʹe-i had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brothers had not many children, nor did all their family multiply like the men of Judah. 28They dwelt in Beer-sheba, Molaʹdah, Haʹzar-shuʹal, 29Bilhah, Ezem, Tolad, 30Bethuʹel, Hormah, Ziklag, 31Beth-marʹcaboth, Haʹzar-suʹsim, Beth-biri, and Sha-araʹim. These were their cities until David reigned. 32And their villages were Etam, Aʹin, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan, five cities, 33along with all their villages which were round about these cities as far as Baʹal. These were their settlements, and they kept a genealogical record.

34Meshoʹbab, Jamlech, Joshah the son of Amaziʹah, 35Joʹel, Jehu the son of Joshibiʹah, son of Seraiʹah, son of Asʹi-el, 36Eli-o-eʹnai, Ja-akoʹbah, Jeshohaiʹah, Asaiʹah, Adʹi-el, Jesimʹiel, Benaiʹah, 37Ziza the son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiʹah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiʹah—38these mentioned by name were princes in their families, and their fathers’ houses increased greatly. 39They journeyed to the entrance of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks, 40where they found rich, good pasture, and the land was very broad, quiet, and peaceful; for the former inhabitants there belonged to Ham. 41These, registered by name, came in the days of Hezekiʹah, king of Judah, and destroyed their tents and the Me-uʹnim who were found there, and exterminated them to this day, and settled in their place, because there was pasture there for their flocks. 42And some of them, five hundred men of the Simeonites, went to Mount Seʹir, having as their leaders Pelatiʹah, Ne-ariʹah, Rephaʹiah, and Uzʹziel, the sons of Ishi; 43and they destroyed the remnant of the Amalʹekites that had escaped, and they have dwelt there to this day.
